Tastes Like Lasagna (Without The Fuss)

SSP loves his food.  There is no denying him anything.  He is always up to trying something new and exciting...especially if there is pasta and/or cheese involved.  A few months back I was wanting to make lasagna or something similar for dinner.  BAP justed wanted to have his leftover mac-n-cheese from lunch; he did not anything to do with dinner.

Baked Ziti
adapted from: http://www.unfussyepicure.com/2011/02/creamy-baked-ziti.html

8oz penne or ziti pasta (cooked for half the time stated on pkg)
1(24oz) can Hunts pasta sauce(Garlic & Herb and/or 4 Cheese work well)
8oz cottage cheese
8oz shredded Mozzarella cheese
3/4 pound Italian sausage, removed from casing
1/2 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 t dried oregano
1/2 t dried basil
1/4 t dried thyme
1/2 t onion powder
1/2 t garlic powder

Cook pasta for 6minutes or so (it will not be even al dente-don't worry it will cook more in the oven with all the other ingredients).  In a sauce pan, brown sausage with garlic and onion; drain.  Return to pan and add spices and pasta sauce.  Simmer lightly about 10minutes.  Place some sauce in the bottom of a greased 8x8pan.  Layer in 1/2 the pasta.  Top with 1/2 cottage cheese and 1/3 Mozzarella.  Top with sauce. Remaining noodles, cottage cheese, 1/3 Mozzarella.  End with last bit of sauce.  Cover and bake at 350 for 30minutes.  Uncover and top with remaining Mozzarella. Bake an additional 15minutes until golden brown and bubbly.  Serve with garlic bread and a salad.
