Ready, Set, Go (Eat Dirt)

Yes!  Dirt is so yummy (at least when it is sweet and tasty).  As summer is here I thought I would make a special treat for the boys.  I remember having a similar dessert, at my aunt's house, when I was younger.  I remember thinking it was weird that she actually wanted us to eat dirt; that dirt was good.  Growing up with brothers we often made mud pies from the mud in the back yard; glad we did not eat that....ew.

Dirt Cake (the good kind)
adapted from: http://www.melskitchencafe.com/2012/07/dirt-pudding-cups-homemade-version.html

1 recipe chocolate pudding (see below)
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 T powdered sugar
20 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed (Oreos/Tuxedos/etc)
gummy worms (this recipe looks fun to make too)

Combine whipping cream and sugar in a bowl.  Add to pudding.  Fold in 3/4 cup crushed cookies.  Divide mixture into 6 plastic cups.  Top with remaining cookies.  Drop worms in "dirt" too. Chill until serving time. Enjoy.

Chocolate Pudding
adapted from: http://www.melskitchencafe.com/2011/02/the-best-vanilla-and-chocolate-pudding.html

1/4 cup brown sugar
3 T cocoa powder
3 T cornstarch
1/4 t salt
2 3/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 t vanilla

Combine all dry ingredients (minus chocolate chips) into a sauce pan).   Whisk in milks until lump-free. Stir in chocolate chips.  Simmer over medium-low heat until thickened (2 to 3 minutes).  Remove from heat and add vanilla.  Place in another bowl.  Cover(with wrap touching pudding) and chill at least 4 hours.

A Great Alternative can be found here (if you don't want to fuss with making your own pudding and whipped cream)!!
