Homemade Is MUCH Better Than Store Bought

As I have mentioned previously I detest anything that is premade and canned.  I will eat/use it in a pinch, but I love the 'extra work' involved in preparing everything by hand.  Yes you can  call me "Crazy."  Here is my go-to for those cans of cream of ____ soups that recipes often called for.  It is really good and really simple.

Cream Of Something Soup Mix
adapted from: http://www.owlhaven.net/2012/10/12/recipe-cream-of-anything-soup/

3 cups powdered milk
1 cup cornstarch
1 cup (powdered) chicken boullion
2 T onion powder
1t dried thyme
1 t dried basil
1/2 t black pepper

Combine all ingredients in an airtight container (a zip bag works well in a pinch).  One 'can' is 1/2 cup mix + 1 1/4 cup water and 1 T butter.  Bring to a boil; cook about 2-3 minutes (it will thicken as it cools down).

If veggies and/or chicken are desired, add just 1/2 cup chopped.

  1. I will have to try this with veggie boullion - it sounds intriguing. So if you were making cream of celery - does it recommend how much celery you would add? or mushrooms or ....?
